Huge game tonight.  We beat UMass then we are ranked.  Going to happen.

Next weekend hockey at Fenway.  It's going to be a shitshow.  Going to be a ton of fun seeing everyone.

But it's funny- that being said I'm looking forward more to the game my son and I are going to in January.

New Years

Is the most overrated holiday there is.  Period.

It's cold.  It never lives up to expectations.  I've done the partying where you spend $100 to get in some bar- I can't even fathom that.  You couldn't pay me now to do it.  We are having two couples over with their kids.  My goal is to make it to midnight.

Looking back though it's been one hell of a year.  Maybe one of the most defining of my life.  Lot of good, some bad- lot of change.  2014 should be interesting to say the least.

And I should be all set on my goal to continue being awesome.

1. Due to increased competition and losses, ownership has decided to consider remodeling and reconcepting the store at 600 West Chicago Ave.
2. The store is closing, effective tomorrow, December 23, 2013 for an unknown period of time for this remodeling and reconcepting.
3. All staff is terminated, effective Monday, December 23, 2013.
4. All staff may apply for unemployment, if eligible.

Was a little fired up last night on Twitter about this but have been given it some reflection.

Not Thornton's greatest moment.  Probably going to be a permanent stain.  Can't bang his head against the ice like that.  And if someone else on a different team did it to a Bruin I guess I'd be all over it.  But remember, this is one of the dirtiest teams in the league and he pussed out from fighting which would have stopped this.  Also, Marchand got one of the dirtiest cheap shots I've seen.

And Thornton and him were/are buddies.  That being said I'm thinking 10 games.

And most times I think athletes are full of shit but I genuinely believed his apology afterwards.  I think he's broken up about it.

P.S. I think Pittsburgh is moving up into the top 5 worst fan bases.

Yesterday's press conference was ABSURD.

Let me preface this by saying I don't give a shit about college football.  Could give a shit less about the Heisman or national title game, etc.

And I don't know what happened that night.  Neither do you.  And I'm not saying they should or shouldn't have proceeded with charges- I don't have access to the information.

But that press conference- with the former Seminole good ol boy prosecutor wearing his FSU colors and laughing....laughing.....and more laughing was pathetic and a joke and he should be disbarred.  I'm that serious about it.  Pull his ticket.

Even if the accuser was totally making it up- complete lie- how many future victims after seeing that pathetic display won't come forward?  Why would you- it's all a big laugh!

The prosecutor hurt victims, future victims and the legal system yesterday and now I will strongly root against FSU for all time.

Not surprising

Two things that really have pretty big implications but everyone could see coming:

Ellsbury.  One, you knew he was gone.  No question.  Surprised he got that much from the Yankees?  Nope.  Boras guy and they don't care about what it takes to win.  Money's not a concern.  Two, not really upsetting.  Good player when healthy but you knew he was leaving anyways so thanks for the championships.


Obama's illegal immigrant uncle is now legal.  Did anyone not think this would happen?  His nephew is the president.  Would be the same thing if there was a Republican in office.  Wasn't going anywhere.  Also not surprising is the fact that Obama lied about meeting him.  Again- would have been same thing if it was a Republican.  Politicians lie.  All of them.

P.S. I like how the judge reasons that he is a moral and decent guy because he paid taxes "most of the time".  Ignore the DUI and his perjury on his older deportation case.

But again- not surprising.

NFL Hypocricy

Well the NFL strikes again.

And now they determine that Mike Tomlin, who jumped out onto the field, didn't act with intent.  So $100,000 fine and maybe (doubtful) a lost draft pick.

If Bill did this there outrage and national shaming would be insane.  Absolutely incredible.

United Airlines Sucks

First things first.

I saw so many previews for the Wolverine on a loop it's burned into my skull.

Pay for TV?  This day and age?  No and no.

And then they had some show Enlisted on a loop.  Whoever made this piece of crap deserves to go to hell.  And I didn't even hear it with the volume.

And you can't board early with kids?  Really?  Because that's smart.  Now obviously I'm biased but it holds up the line with all the people trying to get their crap all folded up at the jetway.

But I enjoyed the snarky attitude of the board agents.  Unreal.  When did we accept being treated like crap as a society.

But fortunately I'm not flying again for quite some time so f them all....

I'm a huge Anchorman fan and there's an argument to be made it's one of the top comedies of all time.  But the second one is going to blow.  There is no way it can live up to the first one.  I have a feeling that I am going to be very disappointed.

Plus, the Will Ferrell movie that needs a sequel is clearly Old School.

Travelling

Just a heads up if my flight gets delayed and I am stuck in the airport with my upset family there will be hell to pay.

I should start off by letting you know I despise the Lakers.  With every fiber of my being.  My hate for them is strong.  Stronger than the Heat.  The Canucks are a close second as I met a Vancouver fan in Mexico at a resort swimming with my son and he wanted to fight me. Classy guy. Plus they are goddamn hippies up there.

So that being said here are my thoughts:

What are they thinking giving Kobe all that money?  Really- you have no idea what he has left in the tank.  Kind of absurd and you've tied your hands.  But they love him in LA because they don't care about rape there so I guess you have to keep him.  But an absurd contract.  And I don't blame the rapist for taking it- I'm not one of those people that think making money is bad- but what the hell is their front office doing?

Second- Magic posted something about how the best moment ever was having Obama at his house.  Now the obvious and cheap thing is an AIDS joke but whatever.  Done.  And it's not an anti-Obama sentiment- would feel the same way if he said it about W- but that's kind of shitty to your teammates throughout the years to say this one private moment was better than all your championships and a gold medal for your country on the greatest basketball team ever assembled (and Christian Laettner).

Because I love KG and Pierce.  There's a chance KG may be my favorite Boston athlete ever.  And that's saying a lot.  Just the intensity, drive and focus is amazing.  Would hate him on another team but he's ours.  Deserves better than this mess.

And Pierce- what a transformation.  From nearly getting killed outside a bar (nobody ever mentions what type of bar it was) to his immaturity in the Pacers series he turned everything around.  Became a leader and a champion.  Celtic for life.

And I understand the realities on why they had to go and why the Celtics have to suck so bad.  But would have liked them to do better.

Except I hate the Nets.  First off, fuck New York.  Second, Brooklyn is worse.  People I may hate the most are hipsters.  Cannot stand goddamn hipsters.

I found out after the fact that I had a free ticket to Game 6 of the Sox.  Didn't even bother me.  Was much happier watching at home.  15 years ago I would have been devastated.

Couldn't be less interested

Lot of money around last night.  Two types of people- those who inherited it or were kids of the parents who made it.  I think I'm supposed to hate them but I don't.  Just lucky.  I guess it depends on what you do with it on how you should be judged.

And then there were people who just worked their ass off and made it.  That's what inspires me.

I feel like I work way too hard for the little that we have.  If something catastrophic happened right now we'd be fucked.  I guess that's what it's like for everyone but I need a break of some kind.

Now I'm not one of these politicians who don't understand economics and are demanding that the minimum wage gets raised to $23 an hour (paging Elizabeth Warren- let's have a Pow wow).  But certainly they are entitled to a higher wage and better benefits.  Something liveable.

Although it was implemented horribly I like the thought behind it.  One of the things that needs to be done to help the welfare state in this country is to teach people how to budget.  I'm sure the liberals thinks that makes me racist/evil/elitist other bad words but it's true.  I work with people in low income housing that need their payments made on certain days because that's when they get their checks.  They can't hold on to the money for a certain time because they will spend it.  It's that type of behavior that needs to be corrected to get out of this mess.

JFK 50 years ago....

The best teacher I ever had was a former Marine who taught history.  Not only did he teach history but taught me how to think and to question everything.  Completely changed my life.

His Vietnam History class my senior year was so intense and engaging that the night before the final I ended up at Louies (which was odd because PC works backwards- bars 1st two years and house parties the next two) and got HAMMERED, walked into the final and it was four essays- pick 2.  Wrote all four and told him to choose.  Got an A.

I bring this up because he HATED Kennedy.  Said the only bad thing about the assassination was the wasted of a bullet.

Now I'm never going to go that far.  He was our President, and he was killed (alone by Oswald by the way) and you shouldn't make light of that fact, IMO (although it's a great line).

But that being said- I have no idea why he, and that whole family, get a pass.  They made their fortune bootlegging (god I wish I had family that was bootleggers and left me money).

And it's not a political thing.  Teddy Kennedy did some amazing things- and while I disagreed with the Liberal Lion on most policies I understand he helped a lot of people but I always wondered why you couldn't bring up the boozing, womanizing and oh yeah the murder.  If you do you are some right wing nut.

Kennedy almost killed his platoon (but then ended up saving them with an incredible feat of physical and mental strength), was a womanizer and nearly brought us to nuclear war.  But everyone loves him.

Like the Clinton thing.  Can do no wrong although would you want him near your daughter?  Of course not.  But he's LOVED.

This is actually great

Usually when people tell me I have to see something I purposely avoid it but this was fantastic.

Two things- I despise Brett Farvre but the pie scene made me laugh.

I was in Montreal on my birthday for the Tyson/Holyfield fight.  1). Should have been arrested; 2) should have been pounded to a pulp in a Burger King there; 3) was with good guys who I remained friendly with but haven't seen forever.

My New Year's resolution is to see more people that I haven't but I know I wont.  Never have any time.

Christ I'm not even going to see my kids today much less catch up with old drinking buddies.

What an unreal story/ending.  I never thought he would get caught.  Ever.  Figured he was oversees and just living the life.

I think that someone will probably make a movie or something and that will be it.  It's kind of amazing how little bit of news there is about this.  People just don't seem to care.  Maybe it's been too long or everything else that has happened.

And the apartment complex that he was caught in?  I've walked by there.  I could have nabbed him and got the reward money!  Not some chick from Iceland!

In May I was hanging out with some Torontoans....Torontoites.....guys from Toronto and they told me about their mayor and what a mess he is and that I should follow him.  And I am sooooooo glad I did.  I've been watching him before it became stylish to do so.

Sidenote: met these guys in Mexico.  Good guys.  Was wearing my Bruins hat and they came up and started talking to me.  Die hard hockey guys- of course.  And the first thing that they asked....was about the bombings.  That's BostonStrong.  That's what it means.  Good people coming together against evil.  That's what people like Billy Meagher or whatever his name is - who think that the 9/11 hijackers are braver than the American military because they crashed the planes- don't get.  Good he's an asshole.  Actually- I shouldn't insult assholes.

Back to Rob.  This guy is nuts.  Drunk driving, stopping on the side of the road to piss, admits smoking crack, admits buying illegal drugs after clearly thinking of another response but not being able to come up with one and now shows up at a press conference to discuss going down on hookers in cowboy boots and a custom XXXXLLLL jersey.

And those crazy Canucks have no way to get him out.  He's not getting convicted of a crime before his term ends in October.  It's going to be free reign for the next 11 months.

Is the line Meghan Mutrie used (pictured above) regarding the broadcasters for the USA/All Blacks game this weekend.

She was a sideline reporter and in the interest of full disclosure I thought she did a really good job.

She was fielding a complaint about the bias from the announcers towards America when she gave that toddler line.  Three things:

1).  I really didn't think they were biased.  Although the US lost, they played their asses off against the best team in the world and that's how the game was called;

2). I like the line as it's quite insulting;

3). Are you really saying that about your coworkers?  Seriously?  Like you are going to work with them again and that's what you say?  Don't know if I hate or respect that.

Final thoughts on the game.  US did play their asses off.  NZ is just too good.  Fucking pure is the only way I can think to describe it.  Every man down two people were rucking over, turning every maul, lineouts and scrums were a perfect collaboration of a team working together.  Great ball movement.  Pure.

But what Megs was trying to say (I think/hope for her sake) is that US Rugby, and its announcers (and sideline reporters) is in its infancy.  And she's right.

And when it grows up- it's going to be unstoppable.
